In April 2012 a range of FREE courses will be available on the areas rich history and how it transformed this globally important landscape. 

 

THE STORY OF BLAENAVON WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Follow the story of Blaenavon through industrial development to recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn about the development of the iron and coal industries, explore the lives of the people who lived here, and find out how the site is managed today. This course also identifies the key historical links between Blaenavon and Pontypool

Tuesdays, 6.30 – 8.30 pm at Trosnant House, Pontypool

EXPLORING HERITAGE IN THE FIELD

What is heritage? How do we investigate heritage sites? Learn this and more on this practical course which includes visits to both well known and hidden historical sites in the area. The course also covers heritage management for conservation, access and tourism.

Wednesdays, 4.30pm - 6.30pm and Thursdays, 10am–12 noon at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre

Thursday Course starts  26th April 2012 and runs for 12 weeks

Wednesday course starts 9th May and runs for 12 weeks

BOTANICAL HERITAGE

Discover the basics of botany and learn how to identify plants. As well as providing a taste of local natural history you will learn habitat survey techniques through regular field trips.
