Originally from a small village outside Denbigh in North Wales and a native Welsh speaker, Eifion is a retired teacher very interested in local history especially the growth and eventual demise of the iron industry in the Heads of the Valley region during the 18th and 19th century. He is a town councillor, an ex-mayor of Brynmawr where he currently lives and a Green Badge Guide for the HOV area. He is heavily involved in the local culture, he is currently the President of the Nant y Glo and Blaina Charter Group (who are striving to set up a museum to the Chartist Movement), Secretary of the Brynmawr Historical Society, Vice Chairman of the Blaenau Gwent Heritage Forum and a previous chairman of Brynmawr Museum. He has recently done some research to Chartists in the Blaenavon district.
