The Ironworks, located in the Blaenavon World Heritage Site, during a fall of snow

With crisp, frosty mornings and snow-covered hills, winter transforms the landscape of the World Heritage Site. Wrap up and take a brisk walk|. The sun is low in the sky, which on a clear day creates some of the best views in Wales – either south all the way to Newport, the Severn Estuary and across to the West Country, or to the east and north to the Brecon Beacons|, where the hill tops are often coated with snow.

Blaenavon is a great place to get into the Christmas spirit – celebrate, customs, crafts and carols at Big Pit: National Mining Museum|, whilst the town stages a Winter Wonderland, which includes an outdoor ice rink, reindeer, Santa’s Grotto, and a two-day Christmas Market.
