Day out from Cardiff

Blaenavon World Heritage Site is a great “day out” if you are basing your stay in Cardiff. Leave Cardiff on M4 and travel to Junction 26. From there travel north on A4042 and A4043 (follow the Brown and White signs to Big Pit National Coal Museum).

A suggested progamme for your day in Blaenavon might be:

  • Call at the World Heritage Centre to discover the background story of the part that Blaenavon played in the Industrial revolution and why this area is a World Heritage Site.
  • Visit Blaenavon Ironworks and experience the lives of those pioneer industrial workers who came to this quiet valley and set up this ironworks over 225 years ago.
  • Take a trip underground with a real miner at Big Pit National Coal Museum to ensure a really memorable day out.

There are numerous other combinations of attractions and activities that you can undertake in Blaenavon World Heritage Site. If you’d like us to help you create a unique tour for your “day out”then please get in touch with the Tourist Information Centre Blaenavon.tic@torfaen.gov.uk or 01495 742333.
