Keepers Tales

Date: 5th September 2017

Meet at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre then drive to Keepers Pond to start the walk. The walk will include our legends from the surrounding area, including Garnddyrys, Hills Tram Road, Keepers Cottage.

Coity Mountain Walk

Date: 7th September 2017

Leaving the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre and following the line of the railway to Garn Lakes, then climbing Coity to cross open moorland - the haunt of Yr Hen Wrach y Bryniau (The Hag of the Hills) - to descend via Cwm Ffrywd to Varteg and thence back to base.
The walk passes a number of former mines, and we'll hear some of their tragic history, as well as the black humour (Hiwmor y Glowyr) with which the colliers made life bearable

Moorland, Manufacturing & Mining

Date: 21st September 2017

Walking across the moorland to the escarpment looking over the Usk Valley and Abergavenny, then Moorland around and down to Garnddyrys Forge, along Hills tramroad past the water balance lift to the Lamb and Fox, and then over the Canada Tips to Hill Pits and back to Foxhunters by way of ancient coal workings. On the moor we may encounter Red Grouse and Summer migrants such as Wheatear, Whinchat and Cuckoo.

World Heritage Site Walk

Date: 15th September 2017

A five(ish) mile walk around the Blaenavon World Heritage Site (a legend in itself) looking at the stories, myths and legends of the various sites and plants along the way. Up through the Lakes, around the back of the Whistle Inn, into Forgeside, across the valley by Aaron Brutes Bridge, up either Kays and Kears site or along Hills Tramroad to get back to the Lakes.
