Visitors to this FREE event (on Sat 22nd April) will get expert help in tracing their own family history, by:
• Meeting local history groups, who can share top tips
• Hearing presentations from a lead researcher on BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are?
• Exploring Gwent Archives’ fascinating local knowledge
Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall will host a unique, one-day FREE Family History Fayre on Saturday 22nd April, with a wealth of activities, talks and exhibitions all aimed at sharing some of Blaenavon’s rich history – including some of the legends of the industrial age, and give visitors a chance to get expert help in tracing their own genealogy.
Blaenavon Industrial Landscape was inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000, in recognition of the area’s exceptional significance to the Industrial Revolution, and the many rich assets that remain from that time. This one-day event will give locals and anyone interested in the area’s history a chance to see how families – including , perhaps, their own – can link us with that iconic chapter in our history.
As well as a packed schedule of events at the Fayre, the Blaenavon Community Heritage Museum, which includes displays and artefacts of relating to Blaenavon’s rich history, will be open FREE of charge on the day.
Teas, coffees and light refreshments will be available throughout.
The Family History Fayre is funded by the Welsh Government through Visit Wales’ Regional Tourism Engagement Fund. The project is led by Torfaen County Borough Council on behalf of the Blaenavon Marketing Partnership.
