Saturday July 22nd 2017 sees the return of Dawns ar y Mymydd or Dance on the Mountain, a celebration of dance in Blaenavon. This, the third year that a group led by members of Dawnswyr Blaenafon, a Welsh traditional dance team based in Blaenavon, has organised a festival of dance in the Workmen's Hall. Last year over 200 dancers watched by a large and enthusiastic audience performed different styles of dance over the course of the day.
Following last year's success, Blaenavon Workmen's Hall will host the event 11am - 4pm. At least fourteen different dance groups will be appearing. These include Welsh traditional, Appalachian, Jive, Flamenco, Belly, Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Break Dancing, Cornish, Breton and Line Dancing.
The purpose of the event is to showcase the different styles of dance that people can enjoy. Many of the dance groups come from Blaenavon itself or the surrounding area. It also shows that dancing can be enjoyed across the age range. The event is FREE to watch and all the dancers are performing for free.
Go along and see for yourself.
