Lord Dafydd Elis -Thomas, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport recently visited Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenavon.
During his short visit Lord Ellis Thomas was briefed about the partnership work and various joint projects that have been implemented successfully between Big Pit, Blaenavon Town Council, Torfaen County Borough Council, Brecon Beacons National Park and the European Route for Industrial Heritage.
The Minister praised the amount and quality of partnership work taking place within Blaenavon World Heritage Site.
Alan S Jones, Executive Member for Business, Leisure, Tourism and Culture at Torfaen Council, and Blaenavon Town Councillor, said:
“The visit was very worthwhile and informative and detailed our vision of Communities working together, especially our Intergenerational Project, which is a huge success of which Lord Ellis Thomas was very complimentary.
“It is encouraging to hear that the work we have been doing in Blaenavon is being recognized at the highest level, and that it is being seen as best practice for how other World Heritage Sites can work better with their communities.”
