Do you fancy being an environmental champion?

If you want to get hands on experience of helping the environment with an opportunity to meet new friends, then we have the group for you. The Torfaen Greener Cleaner group work together to litter pick the borough and work in partnership with organisations such as Keep Wales Tidy.

Our environmental champions are passionate about keeping the borough clean, and besides litter, sometimes get involved in more unusual tasks, for example they recently helped remove a burnt out car from Cwmlickey Lido (in June). After being burned out, youths were witnessed trying to push the charred remains of the car into the water. However, they only managed to get the car as far as the water’s edge.

Ron Ford, one of Torfaen’s long standing litter champions, with the help of Gareth Herbert, a volunteer for Friends of Fishponds Park, and Adrian Waters who runs local business AP Waters Builders, removed the vehicle.

Fiona Cross, executive member for the environment, said: "Firstly, I’d like to thank the hard work and dedication of our environmental volunteers. By working together we can make more of an impact, and reach more of the borough.

"We are always looking for environmental volunteers, so if you would like to get involved and help make a difference to the environment, visit our dedicated Facebook group. Alternatively, call 01633 647625 and ask for Rosie Seabourne who is our Environment Volunteer Coordinator".
