Passing the picturesque Garn Lakes, Blaenavon’s Heritage Railway travels through the imposing Blaenavon Industrial Landscape, at the highest altitude of any standard gauge preserved railway in England and Wales.

The Heritage Railway is enjoyed by everybody. There are a number of steam and diesel locomotives and a range of rolling stock including two vintage carriages that run on nearly 3 miles of track between 4 stations. Refreshments and a shop are available at the Furnace Sidings Headquarters while there is a small museum at Blaenavon High Level.

In addition a wide range of family friendly events are organised throughout the year. The railway also hosts a 40’s weekend, a transport rally and, for enthusiasts and families alike, our steam gala in September is a huge attraction. A highlight of the calendar is the ‘Santa Special’ service held in December, taking families on a train ride to Santa’s Grotto.

The railway has been well preserved and maintained thanks to the efforts of the dedicated railway enthusiasts; more volunteers are always needed to keep the railway running. The volunteers also run the Railway Shop in the centre of Blaenavon. Details of all services and events including timetables are always on their website.
