What we do

The World Heritage Youth Ambassadors is a volunteer group that is dedicated to empowering young people to have a voice, learn about World Heritage, and then contribute to the management of our World Heritage Site.

If you are aged 13 to 25, you can make a real difference difference and help us change the world! Make friends, gain skills, achieve qualifications. Volunteer at community events, help conserve ancient monuments, sell candyfloss - we do all sorts! You can walk in the footsteps of dinosaurs in the Jurassic Coast, visit the ancient castles of North Wales, and discover the power of iron and coal of South Wales and Birmingham, you can do it all.

The Youth Ambassadors meet every other Tuesday night, and approximately 1 weekend every two months to volunteer, come together to plan events, train, and undertake other fun activities such as filming. You will have the opportunity to go away 2 - 3 times a year on residential to other World Heritage Sites.

Youth Ambassadors attend about 6 community events in Blaenavon throughout the year, helping out through steward or staffing community stalls. You will get opportunities to volunteer for organisations such as National Museum Wales if they need young people for projects, such as filming in St Fagans. You will represent all young people for our World Heritage Site, and get the opportunity to attend groups to voice young peoples concerns.

Don't wait for change. BE the change! Volunteer with us!

Having a voice

We are committed to being driven by you at every level, and you can choose to be as involved as you want to be, from attending training to running training for other organisations.

We will celebrate your voice, opinions and inspire conversations about World Heritage and your community. We will encourage and support you to be able to speak up and contribute to the decisions that affect you. It means that you can share experiences and communicate your views to advise how services should be designed and delivered to be relevant to you and your friends.

Qualifications and volunteering

You can earn valuable and useful qualifications through becoming an ambassador. These are linked to the international awarding body ASDAN.

You can work towards a CoPE qualification (Certificate of Personal Effectiveness). This is a level 3 qualification and equivalent to an A level and 70 UCAS points.

As a World Heritage Ambassador you will be registered for Millennium Volunteering. You could also use some of your volunteering hours towards your Duke of Edinburgh.
