The Blaenavon Townscape

Blaenavon Town Centre contains many interesting buildings that help us understand the story of the South Wales Valleys. Broad Street, Blaenavon’s main shopping street, began to develop from the 1840s. By the 1880s it bustled with activity!

Broad Street and the surrounding streets contain a range of shops, public houses, chapels and civic buildings. They serve as important reminders of the social history and cultural traditions of industrial south Wales in the 19th and early 20th century.

These webpages tell the story of the Blaenavon townscape and the people who lived, worked, shopped and worshipped in the town.
