Tour from Brecon Beacons

If your holiday plans are based in the Brecon Beacons, then a day out in Blaenavon World Heritage Site is a great addition. You can drive into the World Heritage Site from the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal, an engineering wonder that was built to carry agricultural and industrial goods – the motorway of the industrial revolution.

Driving towards Blaenavon you’ll climb the Blorenge Mountain, which is becoming really well known by cyclists as "The Tumble", a key challenge on the Wales Velothon route.

At the top of the hill you’ll find Keepers Pond, a reservoir built to fuel the iron industry, but which takes its name from the game keeper who used to live nearby. Now it’s a great place for a walk or a picnic.

Continuing on along B4246 you can call into any of the great attractions (Blaenavon Ironworks, Blaenavon World Heritage Centre or Big Pt National Coal Museum for example) and fill your day with discovering how this town played such an important part in the industrial revolution.

When you decide it’s time to make your way back to your base, then leave on B4248 towards Brynmawr from where you can either take the A465 or take the scenic route into the Brecon Beacons on B4560.
