7. Lewis Browning
On the right is the grave of Lewis Browning. Lewis was born in Blaenavon in 1828. He was educated at St. Peter’s School, worked hard at his studies and became a favourite of the school founder Sarah Hopkins, who presented him with clothing in recognition of his academic achievements. He later became a Sunday School teacher and a miner. In 1906, when he was nearly 80 years old, he wrote a history of Blaenavon, which included his own memories of Blaenavon during the Victorian age.
At the intersection, turn left and head towards the boundary wall of the churchyard. Take note of the large grave with the cross.
