3. Thomas Hill

When Samuel Hopkins died in 1815, his cousin Thomas Hill II came to Blaenavon to manage the works. He invested in a new forge at Garn Ddyrys and developed an impressive network of tram roads to connect Blaenavon to the canal in Llanfoist. Known as Hill's Tramroad, this route is now a popular walking route. Hill lived at the Great House with his daughters and was well-known for keeping a pack of hounds.

He died in 1827, aged just 59 years. His daughter Jane died three years later, aged 28 years, and is buried in the same grave.

Head back towards the main path and look at another of the cast-iron topped tombs, the grave of Thomas Deakin.
