7. Doncasters
The large factory to your left is Doncasters. Doncasters Group Ltd was originally founded in 1778, when Daniel Doncaster established an operation in Sheffield, England to apply the crucible steel-making process to the manufacture of hand tools. It is now one of the longest continuously operating industrial manufacturing companies in the world. Doncasters Blaenavon was established in the 1950’s and remain an active industrial site in Forgeside. A manufacturer of forged rings, casings, blades and discs for the aerospace, industrial gas turbine and specialised engineering industries.
Continue along the cycle path, dropping down onto the road which leads you up to the main entrance to the Big Pit. Follow this road.
